Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for holidays.
  • Paid days off from work
  • Family time!
  • Starting traditions.
  • The colors, parties and decorations.
  • Did I mention days off from work?

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for crossword puzzles.
I've been doing crosswords since I was little. My Grandma on my dad's side would take crossword puzzle books when we went camping and we would do them together.
I find there's nothing more relaxing, calming and challenging than a crossword puzzle.
Plus- it keeps my brain pretty snappy!

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for emotions.
Because of them, I feel human.
I would be concerned if I didn't feel sad, happy, excited or frustrated.
Because of emotions I am able to figure things out. Why am I frustrated? Why am I excited? And them I am able to work on solving the problem or working toward the reward.

Mr. 8-month- old

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for telephones.
Because of phones/cell phones I am able to talk to my parents every day.
Though they are thousands of miles away I am able to curtail my homesick heart by talking to them.
I can chat with my grandparents and my friends.
I can make plans for the evening or take pictures of my sweet little boy and send them to family.

Although they can be annoying sometimes- people are using them to detach themselves from reality and not have to physically communicate with people- I am thankful for the connections people are able to help me maintain.

Thankfully Thankful

Ooops. I missed a day. I'm going to play catch-up.

Yesterday, I was thankful for breakfast.
There's nothing better than starting off your day with a hearty meal. I could eat breakfast morning, noon and night.
It is the easiest and most filling meal to make.

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for fitness.
There's nothing better than working up a good ole sweat by running outdoors or heading to the gym. I've always, always loved exercising.
My parents used to take us hiking when we were little and I've been in organized sports since I was five.
I've played soccer, golf, tennis, basketball, volleyball and powderpuff football. :)
I am thankful my parents gave my brother and I the opportunity to experience the joy of exercise together as a family and I am thankful I have enough drive in me to continue exercising even when the bed is calling my name a little bit more than that treadmill.
Here's to being fit and healthy!

Sarah's Fabulous Movie Critique

This one is more of a television critique.
The wonderment that is Netflix saved me from boredom last week.
Mad Men Season 1 arrived on DVD.
I love it!
It takes place in the 60s. The main, main character is named Donald Draper. He is one of the big wig ad men at a company called Sterling Cooper. He makes lots of money with his ideas for big companies. His life whirls around lots of smoking, drinking and cheating on his wife and then covering up all of his secrets.
We also meet a bevy of other characters with fabulous depth and potentinal.
I would highly recommend this show. Jeff likes it a lot too!
I can't wait to get Season 2 in the mail!

Thankfully Thankful

Today and every day I am thankful for Montana.
It is probably one of the most beautiful states.
It has lush green forests in the spring and summer, beautiful explosions of color in the fall and then turns into a winter wonderland.
It has lakes, valleys and rivers. Wildlife, city life and easy life.
It has been my home for over 15 years and I love it. The scenery is beautiful and the people are nice. What more could I ask for?

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for family.
I have been fortunate enough to grow up around grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. I am close to nearly every single one of them! Without family there would be a huge void in my life. They make me laugh, challenge me and love me unconditionally.
I'm proud of my large extended family of over ten aunts and uncles, 21 cousins and 7 second cousins. They are all wonderful people and I am SO thankful for each and every one of them.

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful that I can read. There's nothing so calming and enlightening as a good book. I've been reading since I was five and for some reason that habit took. I love reading ALL of the time. I would rather read a good book than do anything else! it educational, exciting and soothing to the soul.

Some of my favorite books are:
  • Gone With the Wind (LOVE)
  • Catch-22
  • The Book Thief
  • The Sookie Stackhouse Series (Dead Before Dark, The Living Dead In Dallas, Club Dead etc)
  • The Grapes of Wrath
  • The list goes on and on and on and on!

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for photographs. They are the key to some of our most favorite memories. I love going back and looking through albums, remembering some of the shenanigans that happened and smiling.
Here are some of my favorites!

An Early Christmas Gift

Last night was the Helena Art Walk. We have never gone and I'd seen the featured artist in the newspaper, loved her work and decided I wanted to go.
I especially wanted to go and price a piece by the artist called "All My Love" which was a piece showcasing a young woman opening up herself to love. For some reason I fell deeply in love with this.
So we bundled our little family up and went to the walk. As I arrived to the store that held this artists work I immediately targeted and piece and scooted over to look for a SOLD sign or at least a price. I was shocked at the price- it was afforable and didn't blow the bank. I'd been talking about this picture since Thursday to Jeff and telling him how I wanted to go see it and then he saw how excited I was about the price and how I wouldn't shut up about it. I tend to talk and talk and talk about something I'm really excited about- bad habit.
But my Jeffy Poo bought me the picture as an early Christmas gift. I was so surprised and excited when the lady took it off the display and handed it to me telling me he bought it. I don't think I stopped smiling all night.
Here's what the picture looks like:
I see it as a fairly modern piece- something a little bit away from my normal comfort zone of family pictures and nature. Everyone I guess might have a different interpretation of the piece. I see it as a young girl full of hopes and dreams, opening herself up to the possibility of new love with innocence and unabashed emotion. I should be an art critic :p

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for coffee. Although I don't drink it on a regular basis- I kind of go through spurts- I find that a good ole cup 'o' joe does the body good.
  • It wakes me up
  • Its a good excuse to catch up with a friend
  • It warms the soul
  • It makes you look like a grown-up :)
  • Getting a pumpkin spice latte or peppermint mocha latte from Starbucks is seriously like drinking Christmas in a cup
  • Making your own fun coffee flavors with creamers at home is always an adventure

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful that both my husband and I have jobs.
With the economy the way it is today and all of the bills we have to finish paying off this year I feel very blessed to get a pay check every month.
We may not like our jobs all of the time and we're both pretty sure this isn't what we want to be doing for the next 25 years but the experience we are getting is so valuable.

I'm happy we are able to provide for our family and pay off what seems to be a never ending pile of hospital bills. I'm happy we are able to afford groceries and pay off our heating and water bill and able to buy warm clothes for the sometimes ruthless Montana winters.

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful every single day for my wonderful friends!
There's been a group of us that have been friends since grade school, some that I met in college and a few that I've just met in Helena. You know me as Sarah, Sarahbear or Swan. You know the real me- the me before stress from bills and jobs and trying to fit everything in one day- and you love me regardless of my flaws. I hope to one day grow old with most of you and join the Red Hat Society. They are always there to give me a call when I'm feeling down, always up for going out OR staying in and always, always down for coffee or ice cream and a good conversation. I think I'd go crazy if it wasn't for you wonderful girlies!!

Thankfully Thankful

I am oh so thankful for my bed. It is my refuge after a long day. There's nothing like sinking into bed after a loooong day of work and mommyhood. My whole body just melts in exhaustion once I hit that mattress. It keeps me warm when I am cold, cradles my body when I am tired and provides a place of solitude from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. My dear, sweet bed, I had a lot of trouble getting out of you today. One day, hopefully very soon, there will again come a time when I can snuggle all day long and not have to worry about getting out until at least 9:00 a.m.

Sarah's Fabulous Movie Critique

Last week I ordered When the Levees Broke on Netflix.
I had some time over Friday and Saturday to watch the two disc documentary and all I have to say is wow.
Very educational, very powerful.
Its told from both the white and black perspective, all from people who experienced Hurricane Katrina and have suffered greatly in its aftermath.
It reveals how certain parts of the government tried did everything they could to alert the part of the government that would actually take action- and yet nothing got done.
When I finished watching this documentary, I felt very frustrated and discouraged and very sad for all of the people who suffered and are still suffering. FEMA really is one of the biggest failures of the century.
I would highly recommend this feature film if you're in the mood for something educational and real.
There's my two cents!

Thankfully Thankful

I am thankful for my grandparents.
I am so lucky to have both sets still in my life! They are the most wonderful people in the world!
From them I have learned a few cooking tricks along the way, the importance of family and heritage.
They have taken care of me when I was sick, wiped the tears from my face and made me laugh until my stomach hurt. They have read to me, bought me ice cream and watched cartoons with me.
I have SO many wonderful memories of my grandparents that there just isn't enough time in one day to put it into words! I love them more than I can describe and am so lucky they are my parent's parents, my grandparents and Caderyn's great-grandparents. But, then again they already knew they were GREAT grandparents :)

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for hot showers.
Dear hot water:
You replenish my tired soul when the day has dragged on and on.
You ignite my heart, to make it start beating faster in the wee hours of the morning.
You wash away the worries and stress, filling me with hope at the dawning of a new day.

A bit poetic- but yes, I love taking hot showers morning noon and night and I am thankful we have hot water to do that!

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for my mother and father-in-law.

  • Pam and Craig are wonderful people!
  • They are SUCH hardworkers with both of their jobs.
  • They love, love, love their grandson!
  • They live only an hour and fifteen minutes away and come to visit every chance they get! This is wonderful because I get all of my errands done much faster than if I took the baby!
  • They took Caderyn for a week when I was catatonic with the flu so that I could get better much faster.
  • They are their families biggest champions!
  • Pam's spirituality is extremely admirable.
  • Craig's determination and commitment to learning something is amazing- I see some if that in Caderyn when he really, really wants something!
  • I love them!

  • Cleaning and organizing my house since I don't have a lot of time to do it during the work wee
  • Baking/Cooking
  • Splurging on a Saturday brunch
  • Getting some shopping done.

  • Going for walks mid-day- its not too cold then!
  • Going to Open Houses on Sundays :)

Thankfully Thankful

Today I am thankful for Lucy.
  • She is a purebred Welsh Corgie.
  • She has a huge personality.
  • She's a stinker.
  • She's a snuggler.
  • All she wants to do all day is play and she's so happy for attention!
  • She talks to you (kind of)
  • She knows when your sad and gets right up in all of your business to give you kissies.
  • I love how she hides food all over my house.
  • She sleeps on her back with her legs splayed in a very unlady-like fashion.
  • She's a goofball.

Thankfully Thankful

Today (and most days) I am thankful for my soulmate, my husband Jeff.

  • He is funny
  • He is SUCH a hard worker
  • He is accommodating to my crazy work schedule
  • He gives up his favorite pastime, sleep, to stay home and watch Caderyn all day until he has to go to work.
  • He does a funny booty shaking dance
  • He is a snuggler- I LOVE!
  • He is my voice of reason- sometimes. Usually I'm always right :0)
  • He is a wonderful father and husband
  • Even though he works a horrible night shift, he works very hard to try and spend time with me.
  • He usually just sits back and lets me call the shots.
  • He lets me call him Jeffy Poo about seven times every day without getting annoyed. That's love!
  • I love him and couldn't imagine my life without him.

  • He is always so happy when he wakes up in the morning.
  • He has a silly and loving personality.
  • He loves his mommy!
  • He has amazing determination and curiosity.
  • He is a beautiful miracle from God, the reason everything finally makes sense.
  • I could go on for hours- I love him and am so thankful to have him in our lives!

Mr. Personality

Where do I begin to talk about how much my little man has grown up? His personality pushes through more and more each day. He laughs out loud at himself, sings to himself and to his mommy and daddy and looks at everything! His first tooth is officially out and still giving him a rough time. He chews on everything and drools everywhere. He rolls over to get from Point A to Point B and he can army crawl. Our house is no longer as safe as I once thought! Baby-proofing, here we come!
He dances and flirts and observes. He babbles.
He's eating baby food and holds his own bottle when he drinks now. He sometimes sleeps on all fours with his butt in the air. He realizes that mommy leaves to go to work in the morning and gets very upset when she puts her coat on (this one just breaks my heart). He loves to make loud noises. He loves to be sung too. He loves watching Lucy play and walk around the house. He loves his tubbies and his tubby toys. He has a deep and wonderful belly laugh and he smiles almost all of the time.
When he sees something he wants, his face is set in a look of determination and he tries his hardest to get it. He loves reading books- and- trying to eat them!
He's my sweet and amazing little man!
I love him so much!

Thankfully Thankful

Being that November is a month for reflecting on thankfulness. I've decided to try and post at least once a day on something I am thankful for.

Today I am thankful for my parents.

  • My mom and dad have been married for 26 years.
  • They are wonderful and considerate parents who have always tried and worked very hard to provide the best for my brother and I.
  • They have provided excellent examples of a loving marriage and family.
  • They took us to Disney World. Twice
  • They talk to me every day on the phone.
  • They are amazing grandparents who love and miss the Bub so much.
  • They have instilled the importance of family.
  • They work extremely well together.
  • I love them!
