Aaaaaaah! We are so close. So close to actually being in June. Memorial Day Weekend arrived. Now in Phoenix, I'm sure most of you know the summers are bloody hot. So when summer "arrives" by most standards with this holiday weekend, the nice resorts in town typically drop their room prices significantly. This is the second year in a row we've done a stay-cation and it is totally worth it.
But, before we headed out, this red head needed a cupcake. It was the only one I ate the whole trip (on my honor!) and it was delicious.
 Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmore Mmmmmmmmargaritas.
This one actually wasn't very good.
And we're off to the hotel with two very stylish looking boys.
I broke out the shorts--very rare for me
The resort was crowded but fun. Caderyn and Gibby both swam and swam and swam.
We discovered these drinks called a Miami Vice that were dee-licious.
 Room with a view
My Dad was at a bag pipe competition in California that weekend, but he flew in that evening to join us for some fun in the sun. Day two of swimming arrived and we were ready to tackle the pool!
And ready to tackle those Miami Vices!
Home later that day we had some lounge time. The boys snuggled up with their Papa and watched Star Wars.
Later that night, Gibby snuck downstairs after he'd been put to bed to snuggle with my Dad. Papa was his buddy this trip. He fell asleep after about a minute of back tickles.
 Papa wasn't proud or anything.
And there you have it! Our Memorial Day Weekend.

Remember when I used to post like every day? Hah. Me too. I  miss that. This week I'm going to try and get y'all caught up to the very second (TRY being the key word here). We are heading off the grid for the month of July. Don't cry! Wipe away that tear! I'll be back before you know it, and I'll probably be posting summer pictures until Christmas at the pace I'm going these days.
Ok- moving on with our trip to AZ.
BUT FIRST. A video of my singing child. Gabriel is my singer. He loves to sing and if you try to shush him or interrupt him while he's singing he puts you in yo place! Firmly.
He's a character that one.
Ok, now back to AZ.
My friend Sarah (same name, but we don't wear it out) and I were able to connect. The stars aligned! We had a lazy pool day and then went to dinner at my FAVORITE Jalapeno Inferno. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I love that place so much. It is seriously THE BEST.
Oh man! Now I'm hungry and craving that place. Look at what you made me do!
The boys spent lots of time just playing. My mom has these cool magnetic builders that she brought home from her classroom and the boys entertained themselves with those for hours. They built Jurassic Park and Bat Caves and dinosaur cages and...the list goes on. They had so much fun I bought these for Gibby as a birthday gift.
Each day we played and played and each night Gibby would crash hard.
My mom took a Friday off and we went to the Phoenix Children's Museum. That place is just the best. So creative.
Those ceiling designs are made from silverware. Gibby was coming over to take my order.
Noodle forest
The Noodle Forest leads you in to the Dream Room.
They switched up their painting piece. The last time we were at the museum they had a big castle that was just thick with paint layers. The lady helping told me that it had been painted on nearly every day for the last two years. So now they switched to a robot.
They have a huge climbing fort. Seriously. I got lost in it last year.
The boys seemed pretty capable of wandering around in it on their own, so my mom and I grabbed a seat and watched them explore through all the different levels.
After the museum, Caderyn went over to a friend's house for a play date so my mom and I took Gibby to his favorite place for lunch: In N Out.

We left for Phoenix the night that school got out. Our plane arrived late, but the boys were troopers and so excited to see Mimi and Papa. Summer had officially started! The day after our trip we just hung low. I was super tired and not feeling very well, so the boys played and I dozed off and on throughout the day.
Swimming began for the boys. They were little fish!
They would play hard all day and then at night just crash.
Remember my bruises from that Spartan Race? Well they got worse before they finally started to get better.
I thought it looked a little bit like a Hawaiian island.
Gabriel got an early birthday present from my parents. A new bike! A strider bike, which was recommended by his therapists to work on that core and leg strength.
He was all business while riding it.
While Gabriel rode, we hiked.
After the hike we came back and swam some more. This was the trip where Gabriel got very brave and comfortable with the water.
I went down to Phoenix craving Mexican food and I found and ate it with a vengeance. I also enjoyed lots of margaritas.
The Monday after we arrived, my Dad took off from work and we took the boys to the Lego Discovery Center down at Arizona Mills. It was a pretty cool place and just right for their ages.
Caderyn's face in this shot cracks me up.
No mom! Not a picture in the sun!
The Center wasn't open when we got there, so we walked around and found the animals outside of The Rain Forest Cafe.
Once the Center opened we got lost for a few hours in the mini building blocks of fun.
One of the rooms was a mini Arizona. They had a stadium complete with moving players and lights. Downtown Phoenix with a band playing and moving on the stage and much more. It was pretty cool.
Then it was on to the building room.
After a day of fun we had lunch at the Rain Forest Café and then headed home.
A day well spent.
