JULY 2016: GLACIER

After our 4th of July celebration we headed up to the Flathead for a few days. We were in need of some soothing lake views and a few fun trips.
It was rainy most of the time we were there, but we made the most of it. The first day we were there was a beautiful day, so we took a little drive around the lake. We stopped at a winery (for the adults) and then found a place to picnic and play (for the kids). It was a lovely day.
We played hard and crashed hard.
Exhibit A
Day two into our trip we got up early and ventured into Glacier National Park. My favorite.
It was a dreary day, but it was perfect.
SO. BEAUTIFUL.
The day we went into the park would have been my sweet grandma's 83rd birthday. She let us know in her own special way that she was there with us. An avid penny picker upper (you see a penny on the ground, you pick it up!), she left these two beauties right along the side of the road for us when we pulled over to take a picture.
We drove up the Going to the Sun Road to Logan's Pass and stopped for our first hike only to find that all hiking in that area was restricted because of an aggressive mama bear. So we played in the snow before moving on to our next stop.
From Logan's Pass we moved on to the Sun Point Nature Trail. We admired the beautiful water and colored stones and then hiked a little ways down to the lake and along its edge. We saw the beautiful St. Mary's Falls and gulped in so much fresh air our lungs were singing.
Look closely. I'm looking in a different direction.
After that hike we drove back down the Going to the Sun Road.
Our last hike was to Avalanche Lake. We didn't quite make it all the way to the lake, but it was still a pretty hike.
We got home exhausted but so fulfilled in how that day went.
Jeff got there the next day. He wasn't able to get off of work until that time, but we set about continuing our fun. A girls trip into town for wine, The Secret Life of Pets at the local movie theater and a sunset boat ride on Flathead Lake.
It was a great, great week.
